I’ve seen windshield washer fluid for close to $5.00 at my local 7-11 store.  Why not make it yourself for 10 pennies.

You can buy a gallon of ammonia for $1.70 and a $3.00 for a 21.6 oz bottle of Dawn dishwasher liquid.

Using the recipe below you will be able to make 32 gallons of windshield washer fluid for a total cost of $4.70.  Or 15 cents per gallon.

1/2 cup – ammonia
1 tbl – Dawn
Water

The ammonia will provide cleaning power but is mostly part of the mixture to prevent freezing. The Dawn dishwashing liquid will turn the fluid blue to match most of the retail windshield washer fluids. And I suppose the Dawn helps cut through any grime that makes its way to the windshield.
